  6. Party Tricks for the Health Conscious Diner

Now that we are out of lockdown everyone wants to be out and about wining and dining. One of the commonly asked questions I get is, can I have a night out and indulge without regressing on the progress I’ve made with my body composition goals?

Well the short answer is: No.

Sorry! 😅 I hate to be the bearer of unwanted news but anything that causes inflammation in the body will set you back or keep you at the same place.

However, there are ways to moderate the effects and dampen the immune response. These are my party tricks 👇🏼

1️⃣ Probiotic: These help to decrease inflammation, maintain the integrity of the gastrointestinal lining, aid in digestion, increase immunity and support metabolism. Supplementing with these before you go to bed will help decrease symptoms of bloating, flatulence, IBS and decrease those IgE and IgG delayed sensitivity reactions.

2️⃣ Digestive Enzymes: These contain Protease, Lipase and Amalyse, Cellulase and Lactase that are used to break down proteins, fats, sugars, fibre and lactose into smaller molecules that are easier for digestion. Having digestive enzymes with your meal will help you digest foods better that you don’t usually have in your diet and decrease symptoms of indigestion.

3️⃣ Berberine, Lipoec Acid and Chromium: These are both useful for increasing insulin sensitivity to help you utilise the calories from a high carbohydrate meal.

4️⃣ B Complex with Activated Folate: B1, B3 and B6 are directly involved in alcohol metabolism and are the first nutrients to be depleted in excessive alcohol consumption.

5️⃣ Charcoal: Activated charcoal binds to toxins and chemicals to keep your body from absorbing them. However while there is research to show the effectiveness of charcoal in alcohol poisoning, there is no evidence to show effectiveness against foods that contain gluten and dairy.

We all want to be able to live a full life but that doesn’t mean our health has to suffer! So if you do make the decision to let go and indulge, then enjoy it! But also balance that with foods and practices that you know will build and nourish your body.

Fiesta Dura!! 🥂
